About the Farm
Honaunau Farm is a diverse regenerative model on the Big Island of Hawai’i. It is a tropical paradise that offers a nature-based way of living. The farm has something for everyone with various accommodations designed to suit many tastes and budgets and amenities like a sauna and yoga space. Tours are available, as are wellness offerings like massage, yoga, and qigong when staff is on-site.
A Unique Landscape
It is a privilege to steward this precious area of land on the very unique and special island of Hawai’i. Hawaiian culture exemplifies love and respect for the aina (land), ohana (community), keiki (children), and aumaukua (divine spirit), and we strive to integrate wisdom from this host culture in how we live and care for the land.
Honaunau Farm is located on the slopes of the Mauna Loa Volcano overlooking Kealakekua Bay and Honaunau National Park. It is a peaceful setting with sweeping views at 1400ft in elevation and nearby forests that stretch to the top of the volcano. Lush surroundings cradle you with sights of the ocean throughout the farm.
With Uplifting Energy
The area is considered part of a “healing triangle” with two special Heiaus, at Kealakekua Bay and Honaunau. Many visitors come from all over the world to commune with the land and enjoy the aloha spirit.
Dolphins, turtles, manta rays, and tropical fish rest and play in the stunning blue waters of the bay year-round, and whales come in the winter season. Two Step and Kealakekua Bay host some of the richest snorkeling in the area and are just minutes from the farm. Our land is blessed to be close to such a diversity of beaches, from the sands of Hookena to the cliffs at Keei.
And Fertile Ground
Our farm on the hill is set atop old lava flows, much like everything on this ever-growing island. We have tropical volcanic soils with a thin layer of topsoil, making gardening an adventure and a year-round endeavor. We have many distinct types of fruit trees on the land, including ulu, 16 different banana varieties, plantains, cherimoya, papaya, lychee, loquat, jaboticaba, tree tomato soursop, avocado, coconut trees, and over 150 macadamia nut trees.
In addition, sugar cane, bamboo, taro, sweet potato and kabocha patches, turmeric beds, lilikoi vines, and veggie gardens span across the farm. Many of the trees are fed with sustainable systems using our animals for feed and fertilizer. Our animals include laying hens, ducks, milking sheep and goats, a sweet dog, and two kitties.
